Farm “Il Poggio” - Curiosities
The farm “Il Poggio” where Villa Fossi is set, is active agriculturally with different cultivations and productions.
Among the most representative:
The Olive grove:
Positioned on the hilly area with about 2000 olive trees, many are secular, among the various qualities: muraiolo, leccino, pendolino, maurino.
About 300 quintals a year of olives are picked, the pressing is done personally, with passion and experience, by the owner.
The company is part of the “Consorzio per la tutela dell’ Olio Extravergine di Oliva Toscano IGP” (Consortium for the safeguard of IGP Tuscan Extra virgin Olive oil) and the oil obtained, exclusively “extra virgin olive oil” is absolutely genuine and can be bought in the farm.
The vine yards:
8 hectares of vine yards, sangiovese, cabernet-sauvignon, colorino and trebbiano vines. Every year about 1.000 quintals of grapes are picked.
The grape harvest is still today done by hand, this means one can operate selectively, with various passages, picking only the grapes which have reached the correct grade of maturation.
The wine, bottled in the winery, can also be bought in the farm.
Cereals:
At “Il Poggio” there is also cultivation. The most significant are wheat, about 70 hectares, sunflower, about 15 hectares and corn, about 15 hectares.
Therefore the view one gets from Villa Fossi is a true Tuscan panorama.
Moreover some areas of the land around the farm are woods, where, according to the season, it is not rare to find perfuse white truffles

Trekking
At Villa Fossi there is lots of space for long walks, perhaps along the edges of the cultivations, or up the hill, at the top of which there is a group of pines, from where there is a wonderful view with an unmistakable ‘sky-line’ of the S.Gimignano towers
Riding and Hunting
At the edge of the estate, in the direction of Certaldo, you can take riding lessons at the riding school, or for the passionate you will find a hunting area where one can hunt.
Tennis courts and Golf Club
5 km away from Villa Fossi there are available the Tennis courts of Certaldo, and 25 km away the Golf Club Golf di Castelfalfi.
